January Meeting This Wednesday 1-28-09

The next KC Metro Verse meeting is Wednesday, January 28th at 6:00 at the Antioch Branch of the Mid-Continent Public Library. The address is 6060 N. Chestnut Gladstone, MO 64119. The phone number is 816-454-1306. We will continue to have our meetings at this location on the fourth Wednesday of every month.

Directions · Map 17k PDF · Picture From the south, follow Chouteau Trafficway or Vivian Road to Antioch Road. Go north on Antioch Road to the light at Brooktree and turn right. Go one block to Chestnut, and turn right. The library is on the right in the middle of the block.
From the north, head south on Highway 1/Antioch Road (From Highway 152, use the "N. Indiana Avenue/Missouri Route 1" exit -- Highway 1 becomes Antioch Road). Go to the light at Brooktree, and turn left. Go one block to Chestnut, and turn right. The library is on the right in the middle of the block.

Annual Rockhurst Fine Arts Journal

Here is the information I promised at the last meeting. This is a really nice publication. I had a poem accepted the year before last.



SUBMISSIONS REQUESTED FOR FINE ARTS JOURNAL
Rockhurst Review, which is published each spring through Rockhurst’s
English department, is accepting original, previously unpublished
poems, essays, short fiction, drama and artwork for its 2009 journal.
Submissions will be accepted from Sept. 15 through Jan. 15, 2009.

Guidelines for submission include: fiction, not to exceed 2,500
words; dramas, not to exceed 10 pages; poems, not to except 10 pages
with a five-poem maximum; essays, not to exceed 2,000 words; and
art, not to exceed five black/white or color glossy photographs and
photographs of one’s own artwork.

Include a brief biography, address, phone number, e-mail address
and cover letter. Mail your entries with a stamped, self-addressed
envelope to Rockhurst Review, Patricia Cleary Miller, Department of
English, 1100 Rockhurst Road, Kansas City, MO 64110.
Manuscripts will not be returned

  • Read-around [please bring at least one of your own poems or drafts you are working on & at least two poems by others to share
  • Everyone bring one writing prompt - we'll exchange them and time permitting work on them & take them home to finish for the next meeting.

AMY LEIGH DAVIS & MISSI RASMUSSEN

Amy Davis and Missi Rasmussen - two local poets will be featured readers with an open mic immediately following. I've had an opportunity to know both of these poets for several years now. They have distinctively unique voices.
Amy was awarded the 2008 Crystal Field Scholarship in Poetry and is attending UMKC. Her poetry has appeared in the in various venues including Park University Scribe and The Rogue Poetry Review. She is a member of the K.C. Metro Verse.
Missi was awarded the Nicholas Manchion English Scholarship Award at Park University. She is presently enrolled in graduate school. Her work has been published in numerous literary journals in print and online. She is the founder & president of KC Metro Verse.

KC Metro Verse Meets Wed- 4-9-08

K.C. Metro Verse - chapter meeting has been moved to Wednesday 4-9-08. The change reflects a move from the Tuesday nights and will continue at least for the time being on the same week schedule just a different day. The Second and Fourth Wednesdays each month. Same time- 6:00 P.M.
